Home - The Difference Between 316 Stainless Steel Mesh and 304 Stainless Steel Mesh
There are significant differences between 316 stainless steel mesh and 304 stainless steel mesh in multiple aspects, mainly reflected in material composition, corrosion resistance, application areas, and cost.
316 stainless steel mesh: mainly composed of elements such as chromium (Cr), nickel (Ni), and molybdenum (Mo), with a specific chemical composition of 18Cr-12Ni-2.5Mo. The addition of molybdenum element is one of the main differences between 316 stainless steel and 304 stainless steel, which significantly enhances the corrosion resistance of 316 stainless steel.
304 stainless steel mesh: also contains chromium and nickel elements, but does not contain molybdenum. Its chemical composition is roughly 18% to 20% chromium and 8% to 10.5% nickel, which makes 304 stainless steel also have good corrosion resistance, but may not be as good as 316 stainless steel mesh in certain specific environments.
316 stainless steel mesh: Due to the addition of molybdenum element, 316 stainless steel mesh exhibits excellent corrosion resistance. Especially in environments containing chloride ions, such as seawater and chemical products, its corrosion resistance is much better than that of 304 stainless steel mesh. This makes 316 stainless steel mesh more suitable for use in harsh corrosive environments.
304 stainless steel mesh: Although it also has good corrosion resistance, its corrosion resistance may not be as good as 316 stainless steel mesh in certain specific corrosive environments, such as high concentration salt water or strong acid and alkali environments.
316 stainless steel mesh: Due to its excellent corrosion resistance and mechanical properties, 316 stainless steel mesh has been widely used in multiple fields. Especially in fields such as chemical engineering, marine engineering, and medical equipment that require high corrosion resistance, 316 stainless steel mesh is an indispensable material.
304 stainless steel mesh: Due to its relatively low price and good performance, 304 stainless steel mesh is also widely used in daily life and industrial production. For example, in fields such as food processing, building decoration, and home appliance manufacturing, 304 stainless steel mesh is often used to manufacture various equipment and appliances.
Generally speaking, due to the higher content of alloying elements (especially molybdenum) in 316 stainless steel mesh, its production cost is usually higher than that of 304 stainless steel mesh. Therefore, when choosing stainless steel mesh, cost is also an important factor to consider.
In summary, there are significant differences between 316 stainless steel mesh and 304 stainless steel mesh in terms of material composition, corrosion resistance, application areas, and cost. When choosing stainless steel mesh, the appropriate material should be selected based on the specific usage environment and requirements.
